I have a secret to reveal.
There have recently been two other men in my life...
And they have been kicking my arse.
Mister and I have always worked out, gone to the gym, and eaten pretty healthy.
But a few months ago, Mister got the harebrained idea that we should do p90x2.
And I crazily said okay.
Well, turns out it works and will whip you into shape.
And in the comfort of your own home at that!
And in the comfort of your own home at that!
I am really a fan of being able to work out at home.
While I like classes at the gym the whole 'driving there after work, changing clothes, going to the class, getting home late' shebang just really does a number on me.
We have accumulated quite a bit of work out garb at home and have a decent space to work out in so I just really prefer to sweat it out there.
Plus Floyd is really good at helping me count reps and do downward dog.
My personal trainer. 'Mama, 25 more crunches NOW!'
So back in September we started p90x2 and worked realllly hard and ate really well.
We promised we would reward ourselves at the end of each month with something special.
September it was Dallas, October was NOLA and November was holiday eating/drinking.
We followed the schedule (for the most part) and the nutrition plan (with some deviations).
For instance, I am not really a fan of the 'stretching' day or the yoga so on those days I will generally run, do a Tone It Up/Blogiates routine or take a rest day. For me, working out 4-5 days a week is sufficient and works for my body.
By the end of November we were in a pretty good routine.
Sure we skipped days here and there and sure we did not always follow the nutrition plan (hi fried butter at the Texas State Fair) but for the most part, we stayed in a good groove.
Between December and the new year we decided to try out Insanity for a few weeks until the new year.
Totally different ballgame with Insanity.
I don't know if I could choose which program I like better.
They both have their pros and cons.
P90x definitely tones you more and Insanity is more cardio based.
I definitely gained more muscle, became more toned and gained better balance and control with p90x2 but Insanity is great because it is a quick workout and the cardio is incredible.
Insanity doesn't require any equipment so that is definitely a pro if you do not want to invest too much.
Overall, I feel much stronger and toned than I ever have in my life.
i.e. this picture...
never have my arms looked like that before...this was about mid way through p90 and after a lot of push ups.
In the end, I have loved the results of both programs.
(However, if you would ask during the work outs I would say, between gasping breaths, that I hate both Tony and Shaun T.)
As far as the eating goes I think it really helped us follow the p90 plan that breaks down the amount of proteins, carbs, veggies, fruits, etc that we should be eating each day.
Yes, when we started I was STARVING for the first few days.
But once I got over that hump it was (pretty) smooth sailing.
Like I said, we don't eat super strictly 100% of the time but we do make a conscious effort to eat well a majority of the time.
(I'll have a post next week about some of our new favorite recipes and a new meal plan!)
And I don't believe in depriving yourself either. We all know I LOVE to eat.
If I wanted some extra cheese on my sandwich or a piece of cake or a glass of wine, I am not going to deny myself that.
It's all about self control.
And that is what I've been up to lately-workin' on ma fitness!
Let me know if you have any questions, I'll answer them to the best of my ability!
*I am not a health professional, this is just what has worked for me.

YOU BOUGHT YOUR DOMAIN NAME!!! When I change my blog name I am going to do this..until then..no, just no. Floyd can come be my personal trainer every day..and then I will be his..YOU CAN DO IT RITTLE BUDDY! JUST SHAKE!
Okay, I've gone off the deep end..BYEEE
p.s. you look smoking!
Wow, those are some impressive results! I've been tossing around doing P90X2 but haven't committed mentally yet. Home workouts are the way to go for me too. Floyd looks like he's trying to hold your ankles while you do sit-ups. What a good boy. :)
You look AMAZING, all the hard work is totally paying off. And I love Floyd as your personal trainer, haha so cute!
xo, Yi-chia
Always Maylee
You look awesome!! I did P90X and Insanity in full and I must say they are tough! I LOVE Shaun T!
I have been on the fence about getting a gym membership or getting these DVDs.. You definitely helped sway my decisions towards the DVDs. I am with you on getting home late and all that nonsense.
You look ah-mazing. For real. Floyd says don't get any big ideas and try to put him on any of the above plans...he gets his stretching in trying to reach the countertops, rhankyouverymuch.
Ok, you have totally motivated me to keep up (and even increase) my workout routine. Your arms look amaze! I laughed at the picture of Floyd b/c that is exactly what Brady does when I do floor exercises..he thinks it's play time!
I swear that one pic looks like Floyd is holding your feet down for your workout! Too funny! :)
Good for you because you are rockin' the arms girl! Floyd looks like he's holding your feet for crunches in the first picture...hilarious. Does he try to lick your face when you get down in the floor to work out? One of my dogs does and I spend a ton of energy fighting her off the whole time, ha.
You look great girl! Maybe after baby I'll have to look into Insanity! I'll prob need the more cardio workouts :)
that is awesome! i did p90x one summer and really liked it. I didn't follow the nutrition plan, but definitely still worked! I could even do 2 real pull ups which I was proud! I've wanted to try insanity! When you switched to .com did it change/mess up your GFC follower or did everything switch fine?
You look amazing! We have been debating starting P90X. Rick has the DVDs, he just needs to get them back from his sister. I really don't need to lose weight, just tone up and get arms like yours before summer comes! :)
Okay Floyd has to be the cutest trainer, ever! I love that picture of him sitting at your feet! Congrats on the new domain!!
You go girl! I'm totally jealous of those arms -- way to inspire me to increase my weights :) Now if only I could get the healthy eating thing under control!
Ps, Love those photos of Floyd as your trainer!
Wow amazing work Sarah!! Big congrats also on the domain name! Get it girl!!
You go girl! Those arms are ah-mazing! I did Insanity after I stopped playing softball in college and it kicked my butt! The cardio is crayyyy! I want to try P90X if those are the arms I will get :)
those arms! you look great! we did p90x together about 2 yrs ago...and i've been toying with the idea of buying p90x2 (we have Insanity too, but i've always preferred p90x..i think i hate cardio? ha).. i may just have to bite the bullet and buy it!
love that floyd is keeping an eye on your form! ;)
ok...your arms look amazing!! seriously! i agree that it does work (although I've never done it) but I always like programs like this!
Um, you are my hero!!!! I need some motivation and this post did the trick. I want to give Insanity a whirl. And guuurl, you are rock solid...HAWT!!!!
Oh.em.gee. You could totally beat me up.
You look amazing. I should probably go do some push ups now..
YAY you have your domain name! Congrats :) I have been interested in these workouts and have heard great things. Your arms sure do look amazing! Floyd looks like a great trainer. Whenever I exercise at home my cats jump on me. They should take some lessons from Floyd!
I loooove the dog helping out! Now if you could just move here and be my trainer!
Holy arms batman! I remember when you first put that picture up, now we all know your secret. That picture of you and Floyd is too cute. I love my group exercise classes, but I have been thinking about trying p90 or insanity. Maybe my Mister will do it with me.
I need to look into these workouts!! I've been looking for something to do at home since we don't belong to a gym anymore. I love the picture with your dog helping out :)

you look AWESOME!!
i'm scared of both of those workouts.. would love to hear some of your meal ideas.
what a great way to start the new year :)
xoxo
You look fantastic! I loved P90X, especially that the hubs and I could do it together but also watching him do yoga, hysterical! I'm inspired to break it out again!!
You go! Way to be super fit AND super official blogger.
This has inspired me to get Insanity to try post-baby... since I am sure I will have so much time... and energy. But seriously, this is VERY inspirational!!
