Total Basset Case: Fridays with Floyd : Sassy Pants

Fridays with Floyd : Sassy Pants

I'm not going to deny the fact that I can have an attitude sometimes but in our house, Floyd takes the cake on biggest 'tude in town.

Home boy is SASSY.
If looks could kill...
This particular sass was directed right at Aunt Kait

If you've ever spent time around Floyd (especially in our house and in his element) you know this fact.
I know he looks all sweet, innocent, sleepy and droopy but things are not all peanut butter and treats with him around.
He has his version of the stink eye, growns and hrmpphs down pat.
And these were just from Thursday.

We just deal with his sass because it's him and we think it's hysterical.  But the other day I started taking note of all his sassiness and his sassy times to share with you.
The list became quite large...

Floyd is sassy when :
...you won't let him sleep
....you don't feed him the moment he's hungry
(last weekend he demanded dinner from my mom at 2pm.  he literally threw his bowl in her lap)
....you don't pay enough attention to him
....he's overly tired and puts himself to bed
....it's not warm enough to leave the back door open and lay in the sun
....doesn't want to walk anymore
....wants to continue sniffing the same spot for minutes on end
(he will throw his head down so far when you tug him along that his collar almost slips off)
...he gets his nails trimmed
...you try to move him when he's sleepy or asleep
(ever tried moving 50lbs of dead weight off the top of your sheets?)
...you wake him up to carry him to bed
....you won't give him all of your popcorn
....you bathe him
...you disturb neighborhood watching
...you don't take him for a walk the moment you come home
....someone or something has been in his yard without asking him

And when you tell him no or ignore his sassiness he will withhold affection from you and turn away.
Case and point : as I was writing this he was insisting that he get yet another dinner, 2 hours after he had had his first one.  We said no so he laid on the floor, faced the other direction and refused to talk to us or get on the couch and snuggle (his favorite).  We kept catching him looking out of the top of his eyes to see if we were looking at him.

So basically what this list demonstrates is that this is Floyd's world and we just live in it.
Our we live with a toddler inside a basset hounds body.
It's really a toss up.

Seriously, I freaking love your blog! How I can relate (especially the too cold to open the door days).

Oh Floyd!! Abby is the same way, only she has gotten vocal in her old age. She will start howling when she doesn't get her way, especially with food or wanting to go out, and it gets so annoying that I tend to give in. Rick said she has me trained, but I can only take so much of the howling...ha! She has been known to throw her food and water bowl and now the other 2 dogs are starting to do the same thing. Soon we will have 3 howling dogs I just know it!
