Today I am excited to be linking up with Amanda for her Runner's Tell All link up!
You know I love talking all things running so this is perfect!
This week's topic is training routines.
I would love to tell you that I have a very detail, specific training plan for my next race.
But I don't.
I do have a loose plan and goals for each week, if that counts.
And I do have a race on the horizon though so that's a start. Though I'm not spilling the beans about which one just yet.
Generally speaking, I try to run 3-4 times a week and like to average 12-20ish miles/week, if I can.
I really prefer for my long runs to be on Saturdays. That way I can run with my group and it's so nice to run with other people and take different routes.
Schedule wise, some weeks are WAY better than others.
This summer has been NUTS for us so that plan gets a bit shifted.
Ideally this is how I like my week to look:
Monday : Run 4-6 miles (sometimes more if I need to get my long run in for the week then)
Tuesday : Speed/track work out with my running group. Usually 3-4 miles total
Wednesday : Run 1 mile to and from boot camp
Thursday : Lift/weight training
Friday : Typically my off day if we are in town
Saturday : Long run with my running group. 5-10 miles depending on how close to a race I am.
Sunday : Rest day
And that all equals to a lot of lacing up and a loosely based training plan.
As of today, I'm at 367 miles for the year and thinking I can meet my goal of 500 if I keep this up!

A running group is such a good idea. Is it people in your neighborhood? I wish I enjoyed running...I've heard it's a "learned" kind of love...so maybe I'll have to teach myself one of these days. :)
I'm totally with you on a loose training plan. Right now I'm just starting to prep for a half marathon in Oct, but my mileage is already high enough for my liking so I'm just kind of farting around out there. It seems to work!
It sounds like you have a lot of variety in your training, which is great! I'm especially envious that your running group does track/speed workouts. I run with the charity "Back on My Feet," and we do hills once a week, but I'd love to do speedwork in a group setting as well. Best wishes on your upcoming race!
It's always so awesome to see what other runners weekly schedules look like!! Love yours!
You are doing so good with your 500 mile goal!!! I like your training schedule. Sometimes if they are to rigid I think it is hard to stick with it. Thanks for sharing with us today!
I love the idea of a loose training plan - and now that I think about it, that's typically what mine are when it comes to smaller races. For anything more than a 10k, I try to plan it all out but other than that I know my habits and what I need to hit to get to the finish line so 3-4 runs a week with one long run usually does it for me.
I think you're totally going to hit your goal of 500! That's awesome!
I can't believe I forgot to add this to my above comment but dude, your blog name - FREAKING AWESOME. I totally giggled when I saw your header and yep, newest follower!
you go girl, sounds like you're definitely going to make it to your 500 mile goal! any chance you're running the Queen Bee half in October (i know you said you aren't saying...)?
I'm kind of this way with training schedules too - pretty fluid, but just trying to get the miles in. (If only I could be doing them right now...already backed out of the 1/2 I was training for at the end of September, but fingers majorly crossed I'm back soon and can do the Cincy 1/2 on the Loveland Train in October.)
And you can definitely hit that 500... I think you should reward yourself with something fun at the end too. Cute running clothes, probably :)
I like to have a flexible schedule too, but for some reason, I try to make my weekly long run a concrete part of my running plan. As a runner, I think I'm at a point where I can convince myself to run regularly, but my brain still tries to talk me out of long runs. I can't be flexible with far distances yet. Maybe one day!
Good luck reaching 500 miles!
I seriously admire your flexibility with your schedule! And you're definitely going to hit that 500, no problem!
